South Clinton Avenue
South Clinton is unique in its diversity of character. South Clinton has three distinct identities - light industrial, restaurants/retail and residential. At the north end of our service area, South Clinton is home to commercial buildings and light industrial complexes. Heading south on South Clinton towards the intersection with South Goodman Street, the avenue changes again, becoming a hive of small restaurants and retail. That business core borders, as well as a draws, the final characteristic of South Clinton on the south end of our service area, the homes and neighborhoods of the picturesque Highland Park neighborhood to the west and Swillburg Neighborhood to the east.
In 2003 a group of volunteers now known as the ESCAPE committee came together to work on a design charrette. With artist renderings of improved street scapes, the securing of a Main Street Façade grant for commercial buildings and dollars from Multi-Modal money for street improvements, a transformation of this avenue will begin to take shape in the Spring of 2010. A number of beautification projects such as pocket parks, planters and benches have already been completed by volunteers from NBN Sector 6, the South Clinton Merchants Association, NSC (Neighborhood Service Center), and the ESCAPE committee.
